The Institute’s cleanup is the largest to date at the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

The expedition uses GPS satellite trackers on tagged fishing nets to find high-density areas of plastic.

This plays into Crowley’s theory that one net leads to many others.

And, in fact, the technique has proved useful since it was put into place in 2018.

Even so, the crew still has a lot of hard work ahead of them.
