It actually helped that he had no idea what he wanted to be as an adult.
It left him open to new opportunities.
Before leaving the Navy, he was awarded the Silver and Bronze Star with valor.
When serving in the Navy, he felt helpless seeing his fellow compatriots killed in action.
He wanted to help heal others, and he has made that happen.
In 2016, he graduated from Harvard Medical School.
